Professional Standards Committee Hearings

Another disciplinary forum are Professional Standards Committees, which are established by the NSW Medical Board and the NSW Nurses and Midwives Board. These Committees hear complaints concerning allegations of unsatisfactory professional conduct in relation to medical practitioners, nurses and midwives.

The Committees are established by the respective Registration Board. Committees of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Board have three members. Medical Professional Standards Committees have four members, of which the Chairperson must be legally qualified.

Only Professional Standards Committee hearings conducted by the NSW Medical Board may be held in public. Persons attending a hearing must abide by any non-publications directions made by the Chair of the Committee and any hearing and/or media guidelines.

Information regarding upcoming hearings can be found on the NSW Medical Board website. Please direct any inquiries to media@hccc.nsw.gov.au.

Professional Standards Committee hearings of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Board are not held in public. The Committee’s decisions are not publicly available.
