Dr Martyn Mendelsohn - deregistered for two years
15 December 2008
Today, the NSW Medical Tribunal ordered Dr Martyn Mendelsohn, an Ear, Nose and
Throat Surgeon, to be deregistered for a period of at least two years starting
29 December 2008.
The Tribunal found that Dr Mendelsohn had engaged in professional misconduct,
when he engaged in oral sexual intercourse with a female patient during a
consultation in his room after-hours without any staff present. Dr Mendelsohn, who
performed a cosmetic procedure on the patient immediately after, had also failed to
obtain proper consent for the procedure and to properly observe the patient during
and after the procedure.
The patient had reported the incident to Police immediately after it occurred. Dr
Mendelsohn admitted professional misconduct. The patient did not give evidence in
the hearing.
