George Pegios – found guilty of professional misconduct by the Dental Tribunal of NSW

19 October 2009

The Health Care Complaints Commission recently prosecuted eight complaints against Dr George Pegios, a dentist, before the Dental Tribunal of NSW. The complaints related to the dental treatment provided to several of Dr Pegios’ patients.

The Commission claimed that Dr Pegios had failed to provide adequate and safe treatment and care to several of his patients. In one case, the patient died after being administered excessive amount of sedative and anaesthetic drugs and not being monitored adequately.

On 16 October 2009, the Tribunal found Mr Pegios guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct in relation to three of the complaints and guilty of professional misconduct in relation to four of the complaints. The Tribunal will reconvene on 26 October 2009 to hear evidence and submissions on appropriate protective orders.
