Mrs Brooke Ledner – Professional misconduct and registration cancelled
01 Aug 2017
The Health Care Complaints Commission prosecuted a complaint before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (‘the Tribunal’) against Mrs Brooke Ledner, a registered psychologist. The complaint related to a number of boundary violations with a male patient that resulted in an inappropriate sexual relationship.
The Tribunal published its decision on 15 June 2017 and found Mrs Ledner guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct and professional misconduct. The Tribunal found that there were a number of aggravating factors in relation to Mrs Ledner’s conduct, including that “Patient A was plainly vulnerable and coming out of a difficult time in his life” and “The likelihood of harm being done to him through the relationship was high, and in fact came to pass”.
The Tribunal ordered that Mrs Ledner’s registration be cancelled with a non-review period of one year. The Tribunal also ordered that Mrs Ledner be prohibited from providing health services for a period of one year.
