Webinar: Consent for treatment - what do health service providers need to know? '

The Health Care Complaints Commission runs webinars on a range of issues that are often raised in complaints using case studies and offering a platform to ask questions. Health practitioners, health administrators and health service providers are invited to join our next webinar on Tuesday, 19 November 2013 at 12.00pm – 12.30pm.

Bridie Woolnough, Resolution Officer at the Health Care Complaints Commission, will talk about 'Consent for treatment - what health providers need to know'.

Any medical treatment requires the patient's or a relevant person's consent. The webinar will explain what valid and informed consent includes. It will also highlight more complex situations where the patient is not capable of giving consent to their own treatment and another person provides consent on their behalf. This includes situations that involve children, people under guardianship, or people who are temporarily or permanently not capable to provide consent for their own treatment.
