Report on the operation of the Health Care Complaints Act tabled in Parliament

The Joint Parliamentary Committee finalised its inquiry into the operation of the Health Care Complaints Act. The final report was tabled in Parliament on 3 June 2010.
The aim of the inquiry was to look at ways to make the system for handling health care complaints less complex and more efficient.
The report includes 11 recommendations that are the result of extensive consultations with health care providers, consumer bodies, registration authorities and other stakeholders. The recommendations include some suggestions for the amendment of the powers of the Commission under its Act, as well as in some instances clarifications that support current practice.
