Dr Anwar Hossain – Medical Practitioner – Cancellation for Professional Misconduct and Unsatisfactory Professional Conduct

16 March 2022

The Health Care Complaints Commission prosecuted a complaint against medical practitioner, Dr Anwar Hossain, before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (‘the Tribunal’). It was alleged that Dr Hossain:

  • breached conditions on his registration, when he saw more patients per day than he was permitted (max 30 per day) on at least 8 occasions between July and September 2019;
  • provided false information to Medicare in an attempt to conceal the breach of the conditions; and
  • provided false and/or misleading information to the Medical Council of NSW in an attempt to justify breaching the conditions.

In its decision of March 2022, the Tribunal found the complaint proven and that Dr Hossain was guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct and professional misconduct. The Tribunal cancelled Dr Hossain’s registration and ordered that he not be able to seek review that decision for a period of 12 months.
