Dr Rashid Iqbal - General practitioner – Professional misconduct and unsatisfactory professional conduct

18 January 2022

The Health Care Complaints Commission prosecuted a complaint against Dr Rashid Iqbal, a General Practitioner working in Wellington, New South Wales, before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (‘the Tribunal’). It was alleged that in 2018 the practitioner transgressed professional boundaries in relation to Person A, a junior medical receptionist, by making sexual advances to her in a variety of ways.

On 17 January 2022, the Tribunal found the complaint proven and found the practitioner guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct and professional misconduct. The Tribunal remarked that the practitioner’s “exploitative behaviour towards a junior employee reveal deficiencies in judgment that would not be expected of a doctor of his years of experience and qualifications”.

The full decision can be found here: NSW Caselaw.

The Tribunal will reconvene at a later date to determine protective orders.
