Dr Paul Labana – Medical Practitioner – Cancellation for professional misconduct

The Health Care Complaints Commission prosecuted a complaint against medical practitioner Dr Paul Labana before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

It was alleged that between 2020 and 2021, Dr Labana:

  • Was charged with three criminal offences. Two of the charges were for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one in circumstances of domestic violence, and the further charge was of re-entering premises after being excluded.
  • Was later convicted of these offences.
  • Failed to notify AHPRA of being charged with any of the offences.
  • Failed to notify AHPRA of being convicted of the assault occasioning actual bodily harm in circumstances of domestic violence offence.

It was also alleged that Dr Labana contravened a condition his registration on five occasions by failing to submit for random urine drug tests.

In its decision of 24 April 2024, the Tribunal found the complaint proven. The Tribunal found Dr Labana guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct and professional misconduct.

The Tribunal cancelled Dr Labana’s registration and imposed a non-review period of two years.
